DAVAL Support for the National Childbirth
Trust
(Press Release for un-restricted re-print /
distribution)
Pregnancy Sickness and
MorningWell
Between 50% and 90% of women suffer
from nausea during pregnancy. It is a distressing and unpleasant
side effect and can make pregnancy miserable. For some women
frequent vomiting means they have difficulty in maintaining a
healthy diet and keeping their body weight at a healthy
level.
There is little that can be done at
present. Most women would not want to take drugs, and alternative
treatments based on traditional remedies, such as ginger, help
some.
Now a totally new method of dealing
with Pregnancy Sickness is available in the form of MorningWell, a
unique audio programme. To the casual listener the programme would
seem to be like many. The difference, however, is in its
construction and composition - and it is like no other available
anywhere today.
The MorningWell programme targets
one of the accepted "emetic" detectors, the Vestibular System
(inner ear) which is known to be a contributor to the vomiting
control centre within the brain. These two organs are known to
communicate with the gut and neurologically trigger the process of
emesis (the physical act of being sick). When used with headphones
the programme's concealed elements interact with this process to
reduce or halt nausea.
MorningWell seems to work with mild
symptoms right through to the severe cases of vomiting (those with
Hyperemesis Gravidarum). Results from a National Health Service
study are very positive, and have been published in "The Practising
Midwife".
The National Childbirth Trust
Charity has decided to make the programme available through its
catalogue. Chief Executive Belinda Phipps said "The NCT prides
itself on being first to make useful new products available to
parents. We were the first to make maternity and nursing bras
available by mail order. We are pleased to give parents the chance
to judge this for themselves." Every year the NCT is in contact
with 500,000 parents to be, and 300,000 new parents use one or more
of its range of services through antenatal classes, breastfeeding
counselling, postnatal support and social events.
The National Childbirth Trust wants
all parents to have an experience of pregnancy, birth and early
parenthood that enriches their lives and gives them confidence in
being a parent.
DAVAL acknowledges the NCT to be in
the front line when it comes to providing support and information
to pregnant mothers and families, which is why for every
MorningWell programme purchased world-wide, DAVAL donates 50p to
the NCT.
The MorningWell programme is
available at £18.99 from the NCT mail order catalogue
(telephone 0141 636 0600 for a copy, or visit the website at
http://www.nctsales.co.uk ), various internet outlets and
is already at some high street pharmacies in the UK and
Ireland.
